Stage 1: through the heart of the poitevin marshes
The 81 participants (from 25 French départements) in the 8th Photo Trek meet at noon at Maillezais Abbey for their first checkpoint. Some have travelled 900 kmto get to the Vendée département.
Road books are handed out and the first stage beginsby crossing the Poitevin Marshes on boats rowed by young professional rowers. After an hour drifting across the waters to the click-clack sounds of digital shutters and twisting rowlocks, the trekkers taketo the road once more and head to theBarre de Monts-Fromentine, from where they leave the mainland.
The Yeu Continent ferry companytransports them gently over the waves whipped up by the afternoon breezeand they are soon on the Île d'Yeu. A few rays of sunshine illuminate the gradually dispersing grey clouds, promising a beautiful dayfor tomorrow.
In theexquisite evening light, the photo trekkers settle into their quarters at Ileoya or, for the hardiest among them, pitch their tents at themunicipal campsite. After an official welcome and arestorative buffet, it is soon time to sink into the arms of Morpheus...
